Log on as a batch job

ID: oval:org.secpod.oval:def:83634Date: (C)2022-09-02   (M)2023-09-20
Class: COMPLIANCEFamily: windows

This security setting allows a user to be logged on by means of a batch-queue facility and is provided only for compatibility with older versions of Windows. For example, when a user submits a job by means of the task scheduler, the task scheduler logs that user on as a batch user rather than as an interactive user.Default: AdministratorsBackup Operators.Counter Measure: You should allow the computer to manage this logon right automatically if you want to allow scheduled tasks to run for specific user accounts. If you do not want to use the Task Scheduler in this manner, configure the Log on as a batch job user right for only the Local Service account and the local support account (Support_388945a0). For IIS servers, you should configure this policy locally instead of through domain-based Group Policies so that you can ensure that the local IUSR_ComputerName and IWAM_ComputerName accounts have this logon right.Potential Impact: If you configure the Log on as a batch job setting through domain-based Group Policies, the computer will not be able to assign the user right to accounts that are used for scheduled jobs in the Task Scheduler. If you install optional components such as ASP.NET or IIS, you might need to assign this user right to additional accounts that are required by those components. For example, IIS requires assignment of this user right to the IIS_WPG group and the IUSR_ComputerName, ASPNET, and IWAM_ComputerName accounts. If this user right is not assigned to this group and these accounts, IIS will be unable to run some COM objects that are necessary for proper functionality.Fix:(1) GPO: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Log on as a batch job(2) REG: ###(3) WMI: root\rsop\computer#RSOP_UserPrivilegeRight#AccountList#UserRight=SeBatchLogonRight and precedence=1
