ID: oval:org.secpod.oval:def:1500346Date: (C)2014-02-04   (M)2023-12-07
Class: PATCHFamily: unix

Updated xorg-x11-server packages that fix one security issue are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6. The Red Hat Security Response Team has rated this update as having important security impact. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available from the CVE link in the References section. X.Org is an open source implementation of the X Window System. It provides the basic low-level functionality that full-fledged graphical user interfaces are designed upon. An integer overflow, which led to a heap-based buffer overflow, was found in the way X.Org server handled trapezoids. A malicious, authorized client could use this flaw to crash the X.Org server or, potentially, execute arbitrary code with root privileges. All xorg-x11-server users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which contain a backported patch to correct this issue.
