Origin bypass vulnerability in Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey via a cross-site XMLHttpRequest or WebSocket operation - MFSA 2012-28

ID: oval:org.secpod.oval:def:5476Date: (C)2012-04-30   (M)2024-03-27
Class: PATCHFamily: windows

The host is missing a critical security update according to Mozilla advisory, MFSA2012-28. The update is required to fix origin bypass vulnerability. A flaw is present in the applications, which fail to properly construct the Origin and Sec-WebSocket-Origin HTTP headers. Successful exploitation could allow attackers to bypass an IPv6 literal ACL via a cross-site XMLHttpRequest or WebSocket operation involving a nonstandard port number and an IPv6 address that contains certain zero fields.
